- It is hazardous, complex and expensive to treat in an environmentally sound manner,and there is a general lack of legislation or enforcement surrounding it.
- Recycling electronics recovers valuable materials and as a result, we reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce pollution, save energy, and save resources by extracting fewer raw materials from the earth.
- By dismantling and providing reuse possibilities, intact natural resources are conserved and air and water pollution caused by hazardous disposal is avoided.

Landfill: More than 4.6 million tons of e-waste ended up in U.S. landfills
Incineration:This releases heavy metals such as lead, cadmium and mercury into the air and ashes. The toxic materials in electronics can cause cancer, reproductive disorders, endocrine disruption, and many other health problems if this waste stream is not properly managed.
Export: An estimated 70-80% of the e-waste that’s given to recycler's is exported to countries with developing economies, in effect externalizing the real costs of managing hazardous waste and products.
Guiyu in the Shantou region of China is a huge electronic waste processing area “e-waste capital of the world.” The city employs over 150,000 e-waste workers that work through 16-hour days disassembling old computers and recapturing whatever metals and parts they can reuse or sell. Uncontrolled burning, disassembly, and disposal causes a variety of environmental problems such as groundwater contamination, atmospheric pollution, or even water pollution either by immediate discharge or due to surface runoff (especially near coastal areas), as well as health problems including occupational safety and health effects among those directly and indirectly involved, due to the methods of processing the waste.

E Waste Recycling Process.

- All e-waste that enters a E Waste Recycle centers is first recorded into a database by manufacturer, model number, serial number, and location the unit came from.
- The system then issues a lot #, which the unit(s) will be tracked by for the remainder of the process.
- A technician carefully removes any outer shell or packaging and places it in a corresponding storage unit that is identified by the material type.
- As the unit continues though the de-manufacturing process, all components are removed and sorted by material type (plastic, glass, metal, etc.).
- The materials are recorded into our inventory system, then shipped to recyclers that specialize in turning recycled materials back into raw materials.
- The raw materials are then sent to companies for use in manufacturing new products.

- E-waste is a popular, informal name for electronic products nearing the end of their "useful life."
- Computers, Televisions, VCR's, Cell Phones, Stereos, Copiers, and Fax Machines are common electronic products.
- Electronics are made from valuable resources, such as precious metals, copper, and engineered plastics, all of which require considerable energy to process and manufacture.
- Because technology advances at such a high rate, many electronic devices become “trash” after a few short years of use.
